Update the Scholastic Teachables Website experience
Working as the UX & UI Designer for Don Morris Design, I was responsible for providing UX and visual designs to update the Teachables site with the new brand developed for the Scholastic main website.
CHALLENGE
How might we extend the Scholastic brand through the Teachables site and improve user experience
Scholastic’s online resource for teachers – the Teachables website offers lesson plans, ready-made collections, customized content, mini-books and activity sheets for students pre-K through eight. The Scholastic main website had been re-branded and Scholastic needed to apply the new brand to the Teachables site, as well as design new patterns to support the Teachables unique features.
Teachables search filtering
We created deep search filtering features specific to the Teachables site’s requirements, enabling teachers to find the specific resources they need most.
Landing pages, emails and promotional banners
We designed templates for new landing pages, emails campaigns, and promotional banners for A/B testing.
LEARNINGS
Balancing consistency with customization
Finding the balance between maintaining the overall Scholastic brand consistency and tailoring the experience to the unique needs of Teachables required thoughtful design adaptations to ensure that the site felt integrated with the Scholastic family while providing the required features for the Teachables site.
Identifying ways to make the navigation, searching, and browsing a better experience for teachers on this great resource was a fun challenge. We worked hard to give the promotional assets a playful feel while making sure UX best practices were followed for navigation and searching to ensure the teachers had a positive experience navigating the site.
