CHALLENGE
How might we help improve financial literacy for millenials
LifeTuner was a non-profit personal finance community brought to life by AARP, who had witnessed first hand the challenges for individuals and families who do not take the steps earlier in life to plan for their future financial security.
The site was created to inspire young adults to explore the essentials of money and improve financial literacy. They needed a responsive website that brought together trustworthy tips from volunteer experts, interactive tools and widgets, engaging videos, and real-life stories. The platform would foster a vibrant peer community where members could share experiences, learn from each other, and build their financial knowledge together.

We created landing pages showcasing LifeTuner’s tips, tools, articles and real-life stories to help users on their path to strong financial health, believing that everyone deserves a fair shot at understanding and mastering the financial fundamentals that are key to life. I designed pages, patterns and components to facilitate new types of content and a subscription model, and collaborated with the development team to create a world-class responsive website.
I designed interactive tools and embeddable widgets that enabled users to tailor their learning experience on topics like retirement planning and credit cost calculations. LifeTuner also offered tools enabling real expert advice so users could engage with financial advisors to make smarter financial decisions. These fere designed to enhance engagement and provide practical, personalized guidance.
We engaged Column Five Media to create the “We Are the Millennials” video and “Essentials of Money” infographics. These visual assets were carefully designed to resonate with our target audience, using data-driven insights to communicate key financial themes in a compelling, accessible way.
I designed and produced the Essentials of Money booklet and accompanying mini cards to support marketing and event engagement. These materials were crafted to provide accessible financial insights, effectively extending the brand’s reach and impact through thoughtfully designed, high-quality print assets.
LEARNINGS
Changing the conversation around money
The site was created with input from more than 400 young adults who provided feedback and perspectives to help us shape the community. AARP facilitated conversations around financial security, a topic that was considered taboo at the time. Since the key to financial security is starting saving early, AARP focused on the Millennials generation to empower them to get ahead on their futures.
This project allowed me to advance my skills in organizing rich content and building tools. I worked with an expert financial planner who was incredibly gifted at seeing the user to build calculators and tools, which allowed users to put their own scenarios in and see true costs and planning. I also honed my technical specifications writing on this project. Working Agile in two week sprints, I provided all technical requirements for page designs and worked closely with the development team.
